My Rembrandt<\/em> is set in the world of the Old Masters and offers a mosaic of gripping stories in which unrestrained passion for Rembrandt\u2019s paintings leads to dramatic developments and unexpected plot turns.<\/h4>\n

While art collectors such as Eijk and Rose-Marie De Mol van Otterloo, the American Thomas Kaplan and the Scottish Duke of Buccleuch show us their special connection with \u2018their\u2019 Rembrandt, French baron Eric de Rothschild puts two Rembrandts up for sale, triggering a hard political battle between the Rijksmuseum and the Louvre. The film also follows aristocratic Dutch art dealer Jan Six as he seems to be on the trail of not just one but two \u2018new\u2019 Rembrandt paintings. This nerve-wrecking journey of discovery seems to be the realization of his biggest boyhood dream.<\/p>\n

Nothing but beaming faces at the presentation in Paris of the Rembrandt paintings known as Marten and Oopjen, four years ago. But appearances were deceptive.<\/h4>\n

The documentary \u2018Marten and Oopjen \u2013 Portrait of a Marriage\u2019 makes painfully clear how passionately and doggedly the Rijksmuseum fought to acquire not one but both portraits for the Netherlands.<\/p>\n

When the French de Rothschild family decides to put the two portraits on the market, the Rijksmuseum begins an impassioned campaign to raise the 160 million euros needed to buy this fabulous piece of Dutch heritage. But what starts off as an art deal between the Rijksmuseum and baron Eric de Rothschild turns into a bloody battle between the Netherlands and France.[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”20px”][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n
